If you feel a sense of deja vu i don’t blame you because this week’s film review is also by Luc Besson who bought us Leon: The Professional which was reviewed a few weeks back. This film was made in 1990, four years before Leon: The Professional yet it has all the same stylings of a Luc Besson film. La Femme Nikita is about a troubled teen who is sentenced to death, and wakes up in a government facility only to be trained as an assassin, which she finds hard balancing between her new life.

Once a powerful ninja, Kamui escapes from his violent and murderous ways, and his travels bring him to a peaceful fishing village where he is taught how to live the quiet life by a humble fisherman by the name of Hanbei who shares the former ninja’s sense of honour and they become good friends. Though Hanbei’s wife is wary of the stranger, and life at the seaside seems idyllic, Kamui doesn’t get to enjoy the peace for very long as his past came knocking on his door.

In this documentary of comical proportions, produced, written, narrated, and presented by Chris Rock, it takes us into the world of black hair by visiting beauty salons, hair styling battles, scientific laboratories, interviewing iconic black celebrities and even Indian temples to explore the way hairstyles affect the activities, wallets, sexual relationships, and self esteem of the American black community. This is definitely worth a watch to lighten your day up.

Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt star in this brilliant movie called Five Minutes of Heaven. It is a fictional tale about the effects of violence in the lives of the survivors, the victim that seeks revenge and the killer that seeks redemption and spiritual peace after thirty-three years. Set in both 1975 and the present day, Five Minutes of Heaven is a unique interpretation of what ifs. Refreshingly simple, straight forward and sincere.

Movie Review: Leon the Professional

In 1994 writer/director Luc Besson (Fifth Element, Transporter) created this masterpiece. This 133 minutes award winning film, stars Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and Natalie Portman (her first ever feature film debut). Leon the Professional as it is called has been re-released on DVD with many extra bonus’s and an extended director’s cut.
