Tech N9ne addresses both sides of police-involved shootings in the video “What If It Was Me” off his upcoming album, The Storm.
“What If It Was Me” revolves around an unfortunate thought in many black Americans’ minds when a police officer shoots and kills one of their own: what if it was them who fit the “profile” of a suspect, was mistaken for one and shot and killed?
Tech uses his part of the song to explain that he never would’ve been able to become one of the most successful independent rappers had he been one of the many victims of police brutality when he was younger (and even now as an adult).
In the song, Strange Music signee Krizz Kaliko echoes those sentiments, but in the video he and Tech take on the roles of both the policemen who confront a “suspect” and a suspect. And neither situation ends in anything positive.
