Cheesy Fondue Stool by Satsuki Ohata

April 20, 2015

Liquid cheese floods over the piece of food as it slips deeper into the pot. When retrieved, the viscous melt follows, dripping back into the pot. The delicious process of fondue became the main influence for japanese designer satsuki ohata’s ‘fondue stool’. Taking directly from the gastronomic process, ohata used a sponge dipped in material to create the stool. A highly absorbent sponge was dipped into liquid, colored PVC then dried with hot air. As the piece dries, gravity and PVC weigh the sponge downwards, molding it until it freezes in a solidified state. When dry, the ‘fondue stool’ is a fully functional and unique object. The design will be presented at salone satellite during milan design week 2015.
