Breguet Classique Réveil La Musicale 7800

August 25, 2013

The new Breguet La Musicale 7800 is one of the most spectacular pieces of haute horlogerie to be released this year and is a new version of the Breguet Réveil Musciale which was first presented in 2010. The timepiece is still home to the patented Breguet caliber 777, however when the button at 10 o’clock is pushed it plays “Badinerie” by Johann Sebastian Bach. The badinerie is best known for its designation as the final movement of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor. The center of the platinum-plated dial rotates completely when the music is activated.

This feat is made possible by a mechanism similar to that of a music box where disc pins replace the traditional cylinder and alternately acts on the 15 metal blades.

As shown in the video below, the sound is amplified by a Liquidmetal membrane that is placed under the movement.

And of course you noticed that the center of the platinum-plated dial rotates completely when the music is activated. It is actually an alarm system — that is what the central “seconds” looking hand is, except note the clef symbol on the end of it which signifies it as being tied to the musical function of the watch. Also subtly placed on the dial are the on/off indicator for the sound (aperture between 9 and 10 o’clock) and a power-reserve indicator for the music (aperture at 3 o’clock).

The watch also has a patented magnetic regulator system. This system consists of isolated magnets in a cage which reduce unwanted sound while avoiding the wear found in conventional centrifugal regulating systems.

The 48mm x 16.6mm case is 18-carat rose gold and the caseband is engraved with a musical score.

As it did for the previous model, Breguet supplies Reference 7800 “La Musicale” with a special box made of resonant wood.
