Product Press:
No monogrammed pretension ad infinitum. No near extinct Amazon amphibian crotch skin trim. No risk of being of overcharged for ordinary-ness or underwhelmed by useless-ness. No sir. No way. Not with this here medium Spring Peeper duffle. With a sizeable 40 litres of storage space, it’s big enough to carry a short break or long weekend’s worth of necessities and niceties, but small enough to board flight whatever-to-wherever as carry on luggage. There’s a handy mesh pocket and even handier ‘wet pocket’ inside the main compartment, plus two handily placed exterior pockets – one at the front, plus a cleverly hidden rear magazine or newspaper compartment. Lockable, water resistant and tougher than a budget airline steak dinner, the medium Peeper includes a detachable padded strap for over-the-shouldering, padded carry handles, padded end handles and solid rubber feet for standing-in-line slides. Like every Crumpler, it also carries our ‘Til death do us part’ lifetime warranty.

The luggage/bag industry is indeed over saturated with a million bags, all of which look the same (besides the slight change in material every now and again). But one brand has stuck out from the rest and stayed true to its styling since day one…. and they are none other then Crumpler. Before we carry on with this review, we just wanna’ say that we are proud to be reviewing something from our own backyard that has been making waves in the industry since its inception in 1992.

Today we are looking at one of Crumpler’s latest additions to their luggage collection, the Spring Peeper. We won’t go into all the details the product press (above) has mentioned, but what we will go into is how functional, sturdy and well made this bag is. At first glance it might look like an ordinary bag, but once you grab a hold of it, you can instantly feel how sturdy and well made the bag is (that’s what we felt when we picked it up). And we’re not saying this because they are friends of our who made these either… they really are. Plus after opening the bag and checking out the interior and exterior make, we were sold.

We are fiends for compartments as well and the Spring Peeper definitely ticked that box for us. There are 2 interior compartments (left and right) as you open the bag and also 2 exterior compartments. One of which is a secret/hidden compartment where you can put magazines or your flight itinerary in for easy access. How many times have you had to re-open and close your backpack or hand carry luggage when going through customs, security and before boarding. With the exterior “secret” compartment, it’ll make life so much more convenient for your travels (definitely one feature we are extremely happy about). That’s definitely one compartment we’ll be using heaps when we travel.

On top of it’s compartments, we really appreciate the top and bottom (or left/right, however you see it) “handle” design. This is one design function that makes this bag stand out from all the other carry on bags in the industry. At first glance it might not look like much (that’s what we thought anyways), but once we started using the bag, the function just jumped out at us. This top/bottom “handle” design is the most functional design execution we’ve come across in a long while. Not only does it make the bag look cool, it doubles as a handle function that you can use for pulling out of the overhead cabin. How many times have you had trouble pulling out your luggage because there were no handles on its sides? Well, fear not, because now with the Spring Peeper, it’ll be as easy as pullin’ your itinerary out from the ‘secret’ compartment. Kudo’s to the design team for a job well done.

Materials used often make a big difference in the durability of a bag, and with Crumpler, you are guaranteed that it will last you a lifetime because it’s entire outer is made of a water resistant 900D outer (for super strength) and 150 Rip-stop lining on the interior (for super smooth action). We can’t tell you precisely how long it will last at this stage (clearly because we have not used it for long), but even it does break for whatever reason, Crumpler’s ‘Til death do us part’ lifetime warranty will make sure your bag is saved!

What more can we possibly say about the Spring Peeper? It’s durable, well designed, and functional…pretty much everything we look for in a travel bag. And we’re certain, you look for the same things too. If you are in need of a travel bag, why not give Crumpler’s Spring Peeper a go.
