Fat Shounen Sundays (Weekly Manga Review) : Bakuman

February 19, 2012

If you were wondering what the life of a mangaka (manga artist) is like, this manga will suit you. From the illustrator of Hikaru no Go as well as the hit cult manga Death Note ;) (stay tuned next week), this manga series is up on the ever popular ‘Weekly Shounen Jump’.

The story goes like this…

Moritaka Mashiro is a talented manga artist who likes to draw as a hobby, becoming an manga artist did cross his mind but it was never a realistic thought because his uncle died from being a mangaka. One day Mashiro left his note book filled with his manga drawings in class, and it was picked up and returned by Akito Takagi who’s a genius that could get into any university he wanted, but he chose to become a mangaka and wanted Mashiro to join him. Of course at the start Mashiro declined, but Akagi didn’t give up and arranged Mashiro to meet up with his long time crush Miho Azuki. After telling her their plan to become mangakas, Miho revealed that she wanted to become a seiyuu (voice actress). From then, Mashiro proposed to Miho to get Married when he manages to get his manga serialised and turned into an anime. Ever since that Mashiro and Takagi joined forces to become one author named Ashirogi Muto.

So that’s the story in a nutshell, I don’t want to reveal too much because it is a very interesting read. This series is very different from other mangas I’ve reviewed. The real life like story make its even more interesting to read as you see the dramas happening to the different mangakas characters in this manga.
