Fat Shonen Sundays (Weekly Manga Review) : Eyeshield 21

October 3, 2011

I’m a little late with my entry today! Gomen ne~?! ;)

Today’s manga review is going to be on another sports manga. this is a feel good manga about an underdog story and so on~ blah blah blah! haha, its not as old as the real classic manga like Slamdunk, but its been ┬áreleased for a while and yes indeed…it is complete!

The manga is called Eyeshield 21!

The hero of this story is a boy called Sena Kobayakawa, he is physically weak, and always get picked on and never accomplished anything in his life. His friend taught him how to run, hence running is his only form of escape from being bullied, and over the years he became extremely agile and fast. His talent was scouted by Deimon high school’s (the high school Sena attends) American Football club captain Yoichi Hiruma. He is the devil itself as he blackmailed Sena into joining the American football team. At first Sena was extremely afraid of the sport, he didn’t want to be found out playing such a dangerous sport especially by Mamori Anezaki, who is Sena’s Senior in highschool. She is very protective and very parental like over Sena as they’ve been friends since childhood and she knows Sena always get picked on. So to hide his identity from Mamori he wore an Eyeshield on the Football Helmet hence the manga name ‘Eyeshield 21′.

This manga has incredible humour, and terrific shonen art. It has a right balance of excitement with the story and the art. Some of the concept the author made up is quite ridiculous but thats what make this manga fun and awesome to read! As you progress over the story, it gets more and more exciting especially when Deimon high school competes with other schools in the tournaments!! It is definately worth the read!! ;)
