Sony NEX-7 Camera

August 25, 2011

Sony hopes to shift the tide in the war between micro four-thirds technology and mirrorless DSLRs with their newly announced NEX-7. Its 10.3 ounce, magnesium alloy body contains the same 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS HD sensor that has made Sony’s Alpha line of DSLRs the talk of the camera town. Combined with other features like an adjustable 1024 x 768-pixel OLED viewfinder (for approximately 100% frame coverage), 1080p video capture at 60p, an ISO range of 100-16000, 10fps burst mode, and a shutter lag of 20ms — the NEX-7 offers an intriguing look at where photography gear is headed. Like any high-end snapper in the post-Instagram age, users can also choose from 11 onboard shooting modes and 15 effects, including 3D Sweep Panorama, and auto HDR. Expect the camera to hit shelves this November for $1,350 with an included 18-55mm lens or $1,200 for the body alone.
