It’s no easy feat finding a female who can stand up against the boys and stand out with a different sound in today’s continuously male-dominated world of hip-hop, but pop-fusion songstress Shanell aka SNL of Lil Wayne’s Young Money crew proves that it isn’t impossible. When she’s not performing herself or working with producers such as David Guetta, she’s been known to pen tracks for some of the industry’s most prominent names, from Kelis and Jennifer Hudson, to Ne-Yo and Melanie Fiona. She got her start as a dancer, classically trained in ballet, jazz, and modern-dance, dancing on stage for acts such as Ciara and Ne-Yo, but eventually decided to focus solely on her recording career.
It’s for these reasons that Married to the Mob approached SNL to be the campaign model for their Fall 2 collection, keeping with the tradition of always using edgy females with refreshing personalities, much like the brands own image. After meeting on the Lip Service Radio show that company owner Leah McSweeney co-hosts with Angela Yee on Thursday nights, the two immediately hit it off, with Leah falling especially hard for her petite frame and unique style, often accentuated by her signature nose-to-earring chain jewelry. Several phone calls and a plane ride later, SNL was in NYC prepping for her first MTTM shoot, and the rest is history…
The Fall 2 collection itself is a combination of street-style savviness and sultry sophistication, just in time for the rapid transition into fall. You can expect MTTM’s usual array of provocative graphic tee’s, which owner Leah McSweeney promises are even more in-your-face this time around. The cut & sew pieces are what truly set the line apart, consisting of rich cozy knit cardigans, a sleek studded mini dress, and even a full-body satin jumpsuit dubbed the Diana. Or if you’re simply looking to snuggle up to your boo on a chilly night, get right in the thermal lounge set, studded Stella tracksuit, or velour wrap & matching legging. Either way, with the help of sizzling spokes-model SNL, the rapidly cooling season is bound to get hot!
